WHERE TO START?

One of the important steps in obtaining a valid marriage license, regardless of the size or style of your wedding celebration, is to navigate the process correctly and legally. In New Jersey, it is crucial to have a New Jersey marriage license in order to have your future life together recognized as a legal union. The state has a 72-hour waiting period between filing your application and your wedding date. This means that while you can apply for your license up to six months in advance, you can only get married 72 hours after filing your application. To ensure that you receive your license in time, it is recommended to apply no later than Tuesday if you are getting married over the weekend. The process requires an in-office visit or appointment, where both partners need to provide the necessary paperwork and proof of identification of a witness.

The application fee for a New Jersey marriage license is $28. The issuing authority must witness you signing the application under oath. Applying for the marriage license should be done in the New Jersey municipality where either party resides. The license is valid throughout the state. If neither applicant is a New Jersey resident, the application should be submitted in the municipality where the marriage ceremony will take place. The required documents include proof of identity (driver’s license, passport, or state/federal I.D.), proof of residency (if a NJ resident), social security number, and a witness who is 18 years of age or older.

There is one exception to this requirement. If a civil and religious ceremony are to be performed on the same day, the Local Registrar will make a photocopy of the marriage application, marking one as “A” and the other as “B”. Corresponding marriage licenses marked as “A” and “B” will be issued. One copy will be used for the religious ceremony, and the other for the civil ceremony.

Get Married!

Once you have chosen a date and shared your vision, the team at TheArtFactory will dive into wedding planning. It is important to consider the type of wedding you both want, whether it be the event of your childhood dreams or one that reflects your current tastes and mood. It is recommended to start with a survey - simply ask our design team and they will be happy to schedule a complementary design meeting! Make sure it is a day that you will both remember forever. Sit down with your fiancé and ask yourselves some questions. What colors do you gravitate towards? Are you passionate about a particular flower? What song lyric or poem moves you the most? Do you have a pet? Consider having your dog play the role of a ring bearer. For more ideas, you can log in to our wedding planning app and upload all your wedding-related inspirations. TheArtFactory will also share many links with real weddings and ideas. It is recommended to use Pinterest and Instagram to get your creative juices flowing.
